Cochrane Tuesday Night Hill Climb / Time Trial Series

 May 5th to August 18th / 2009

These evenings are designed to add a social setting to a hard workout.  Although the rides are done solo the rest periods can be social. The goal is to alternate Tuesday evenings: 2 hill climb nights then 1 time trial night repeating.  Series fee is $2 / night. ALL money goes towards year end prizes for the series.

ALL PEOPLE ATTENDING / RIDING MUST BE ATA MEMBERS to be covered for our insurance

Each night will have different theme to the workout.

Meeting and Parking – maps.....click here

Meeting is Horse Creek Road and Township Rd 262

 Park on Township Rd. 262

 Start Time – 6:30pm

Please do your warm up earlier.  Warm up on Hwy 1A west  of Cochrane or Horse Creek Rd.. (not on Cochrane Hill

Please Note:  Cochrane Hwy 1A hill is a busy road.  Please only ride single file.  Only descend thru Glen Eagles single file.  If we take up the road we will run into problems with vehicles and the police!

Horse Creek Road has recently become a very popular riding road with it now being part of the Ironman Calgary 70.3 Race course. To date the local traffic has been very good with sharing the road with cyclists but we have noticed a recent spike in the numbers of cyclists now riding the road.  With this we have also seen a huge increase in the total lack of regards for the rules of the road by cyclists.  This road has no shoulder and we need to ride single file to allow cars to pass safely.  If the local police start to get complaints Tuesday night rides will be shut down! If you ride 2 a breast you need to be aware when cars are coming and single up.

Time Trial Nights – When we do time trial nights we will always have people passing others.   This is practice not a full race!  Only over take and pass someone when safe.  This mean must shoulder check prior to passing to make sure its safe.

Most of this sounds like common sense however when one is doing a hard workout many forget

IMPORTANT INFO Hill Climb Nights

The climbs will be self timed with a visible start and stop point.  (Orange Pylon)

  • Record keeping will be done by yourself. Bring pen paper and make note of times for climbs and TT.
  • Riders will climb solo or start solo on TT nights, and take off on staggered intervals from meeting point
  • Always descending thru Gleneagles on Hill Climb Nights
  • Rest area at bottom of hill north side of Hwy 1A on 3rd Ave.
  • No stopping and resting on the shoulder of Hwy 1 at top or bottom of hill.
  • Cross Hwy 1A just prior to starting your climb.
  • Rolling start – clock starts at yellow traffic sign bottom hill.  Stop timing at orange pylons at top of climbs.

 Prizing and Wrap up:

All the money collected will be used to purchase prizes and we will have a year end BBQ after the last night.

Weekly updates and info will be posted on the Team Tri Life Forum
