June 1 - 3 was a HUGE weekend for Team TriLife athletes!

There are a few race reports on the forum and hopefully more will be added soon.  (That’s a hint from Angie!)

Oliver Half Ironman   - can you say hot!  Close to 40 degrees Ouch!!  GREAT JOB MARCELO!

Vulcan Tin Man:  Congratulations to Rena, JoZ, Michelle R., Jenn, Paddi, Janice, Sandy, and Karen.

Try This Triathlon:  Congratulations to Alfred and Michelle S.

Finally, a big thank you and congrats to Team TriLife athletes who worked hard at the Second Annual OnPar Race Pace Training Camp in Cochrane on the weekend.  Don, Sue, Nola, Kerry and Trish swam / biked and ran hard the entire weekend!  Great job

June 9-10th / 07

Wow!  What a weekend!  We had a number of Team TriLife athletes racing this weekend, and an outstanding weekend it was.

At Wasa Olympic Distance Tri, best times were had by all Team TriLife athletes who competed this race for a second year even though there was a big headwind for half of the ride.

Janice:  7 min PR, David:  9 min PR, Susi: 29 min PR, Leslie:  14 min PR, Nola:  10 min PR

Other great Wasa results were seen by Kerry, Rena and Cynthia who all had gigantic PR’s for Olympic Distance tri’s.  Caroline, in her first race of this distance, shocked herself by racing stronger than she thought possible on the bike, and holding on for a great run.  Sue completed her first OD race of the year and regardless of the fact that she considered pulling out a few days earlier, she got the job done!  JoZ... what can I say!  You rode 100k on Friday, 90 on Monday, and still finished this race. WELL DONE!  Karen, in her first open water sprint triathlon, calmed the demons from  the water to go on and cycle strong and rock on the run!

At the Footstock Duathlon, Don took 9 minutes off his time from last year, Sandy PR’d by 3 minutes, and Coach Angie had a great race with a 3rd place overall finish for women and the fastest bike split of the day.

In the Fooststock Half Marathon Janet and Hope had outstanding races even though they rode long the day before, and Shannon ran what I believe is her fastest 10k to date.

Angie Anderson’s Learn to Run and Improve your 10k participants had outstanding finishes at the Footstock 5km and 10k race on Saturday.  Most came with no running experience, and now are hooked on running and looking forward to their next 10k challenge. Thank you to all who took the clinic. It was a pleasure for Lara, Janet and I to guide you through the past 10 weeks of running, and we hope to see you on the trails of Airdrie and Cochrane running in the months and years to come!

The forum is filling up with race reports and supportive comments from teammates, and there are pictures from Wasa and Footstock on the Photo Gallery Page.

Makes you wonder... what will next weekend bring?  Alfred is up for the Arbour Lake Sprint Tri, and we will anxiously await his race report.

GREAT JOB TEAM TRILIFE!  You made your coach very proud!

June 16/07

What a wet and wonderful weekend!  (Maybe not so wonderful for the Team TriLife athletes who raced in the rain!)

Congratulations to Shannon who raced Woody’s Sprint Triathlon in Red Deer on Sunday.  She said she tried to keep her feet dry on the first lap of the run, but jumped in as many puddles as possible on the second lap!  If you can’t be warm, you might as well have fun!

Caroline had an outstanding result at the 5 Peaks Trail Race after short warm up of 11/2 hours!  (She needed to get a long run in, but got a last minute spot to the race, so we combined the best of both worlds.)  It was wet and muddy, but she came home with a 5th place over all and a 3rd place in her age group.

And Alfred... what can we say about Alfred.  He completed his first triathlon EVER in the wind, rain and cold of the Arbour Lake Sprint.  I can’t believe he started, but I can believe he finished.  Hypothermia, crashes, people running into poles and losing count of laps. It was nasty, but our very own Alfred completed cold but unscathed.

Race reports are up!

This coming weekend we have Dani racing Edmonton ITU Olympic Distance, Marcelo in the Chinook Half Ironman, and Don and Angie in Ironman Coeur d’alene.  It’s gonna be another great weekend for Team TriLife!  To follow IMCDA on Sunday go to www.ironmanlive.com and you will get updates on Don and Angie as they progress through the Ironman course.  The weather looks great for racing with a high of 21 degrees, so we Canuck type triathletes are hoping for a great day!

June 23-24th / 07

Saturday was the Chinook Half Ironman in Calgary.  Team TriLife athlete, Marcelo had a great race on a tough course with tough conditions to place 3rd in his age group.  He wrote the most wonderful post race report, and has posted it on the forum.   Congratulations Marcelo!

Sunday, June 24th saw 3 TriLife athletes tow the line at 2 different venues.

Danielle was in Edmonton doing not only her first Olympic Distance triathlon, but also her first triathlon!  With only 1 open water swim under her belt, she got the job done.  There were lots of lessons learned from the first one, and I’m excited to see things develop as she continues to race over the summer.

This was also race day at Ironman Coeur d’Alene and both Don and Coach Angie were on the beach to give it their all in the rough water, hilly new bike course, and cool conditions.  The day was tough, but amazing too.  (Each loop of the bike had 3100ft of elevation gain, making the total ascent during the ride 6100ft.  The winner of the race won in CDA 2 years ago. He was 10 minutes slower this year, and he said in the paper that the reason he lost time was 100% the revised bike route.  That was good to read!)

At the post race banquet, the president of Ironman North America, Graham Fraser got up to speak.  He said many things, but what really stuck out to the folks at my table, was when he talked about the passion in the room.  He told us to look around.  This tent is filled with people who are passionate about their families, their lives, and their sport.  How many of our neighbors can say they really have a passion?  Wow, are we lucky to call ourselves triathletes.

Angie has posted her very long race report on the forum.
