Hey Team Tri Life... Here is the latest and greatest from our wonderful fellow athletes....

 Las VegasMarathon

  • A HUGE congrats to Paddy on her FIRST MARATHON EVER!  Paddy is in the um... over 50 crowd... so this was quite an accomplishment.  She really struggled with injuries in the last year, and getting the training done to complete this event was immense!  Congrats Paddy!  This was a HUGE confidence booster as you head towards Ironman Arizona... with Trish!
  • Where there is Paddy there is Trish!!! Trish ran her second marathon EVER... in the... um... over 50 crowd!  (Although if we count her Ironman marathon in 08 I guess this was her 3rd!)  Her and Paddy were partners in training and partners in racing. They got each other through.  Trish is a work horse who sets the standard for training for a lot of athletes in Cochrane.  Congrats Trish on an outstanding accomplishment!
  • Alfred... This guy is a work horse like Trish! He has a busy job and 2 little people at home. He's always balancing family, work and training, and somehow he manages to fit it all in.  Alfred had a brilliantly paced first 32k for this marathon, and thought it was in the bag to hold pace to the finish line.  Unfortunately his quads disagreed with him in the last 10k and he lost some minutes and his goal time.  When he was finished he said he was really glad to get to the finish line... spoken like a very mature athlete who didn't have the day he hoped for. Congrats on getting it done Alfred. Ironman Canada... HERE YOU COME!

·        Cindy(Richelle's athlete) also had her first ever marathon and loved it! Cindy had a great day and was smiling in every single picture taken of her. Cindy is building towards Ironman Canada 2011 and is happy to get a marathon under her belt. She did it in a great time and rewarded herself with a spa experience!

Las Vegas Half Marathon

  • Shannon had a rough fall with illness.  She got the chest infection that would not go away and unfortunately was de-railed from her plans to do the full marathon.  She decided to sign up for the half, knowing she wasn't trained as well as she'd like to be, but decided to run it for fun after a few emails with me supporting that decision.  Shannon was really really pleased with her result!!! She beat her "worst case scenario" by 8 min, and enjoyed the day.  This was a mental accomplishment, and her acceptance of what she was "able" to do, rather than focusing on what she was "not trained" to do, was extremely rewarding for me to watch as her coach.  Lots of lessons learned in this process Shannon, that will serve you well at Ironman Canada next year!
  • Doug...  WOW!  Doug worked really hard for this race.  We had to adjust his trianing program because his legs don't like short hard intervals, so every interval he did in training was long and race paced.  His legs liked that speed.  It paid off.  Doug is also in the "over 50" crowd, and at "his" age (said with love!) he had a best time half marathon AND finished 4th in his age group at this race!  In my opinion this is a HUGE accomplishement at a VERY big event!  CONGRATS Douglas!  I have a feeling we'll see you on the podium VERY soon!

California International Marathon

  • Susan is our super speedy Vancouver athlete.  She had a break through half Ironman in Sept.  Racing was looking good!  Then, with no taper and during her marathon build,  she took almost 2 min off her 10k time ON NO TAPER, proving the speed was there!  Then. in the same state of not taper AND the day after doing speed work, she took over 2 min off her Half Marathon time and qualified for New York!!!  She was on a roll!  All that was left was for the marathon and the goal was to run under 3:40 to qualify for Boston!  I think most of you know that SHE DID IT!!!!!  Susan ran a 3:35 and qualified with oodles of time to spare!  She ran the race of her life!  At the finish she said "she hurts SO bad... but the hurt is SO good!"  This was a dream come true!!!!!!!  CONGRATS Susan!  You've had quite a year!

 Other news:

Terry (Richelle's athlete) turns 50 today! Terry has been committed to training this year and working towards GWN being in her new age category!
That's all for now! Hope everyone is staying warm.
